The Murray Lake recreation area, located just 5 kilometers northwest of the Bottle Top Bridge on the Coquihalla Highway, offers a perfect location for a complete backcountry experience. Visitors can find 2 campsites at the south end of the lake and 10 at the north end, alongside a large meadow 300 meters north that accommodates up to 50 RVs. For those interested in year round activities, this area also features 100 miles of logging roads ideal for riding ATVs, dirt bikes, or snowmobiles, making it a prime location for outdoor exploration. If you prefer camping off the beaten path but still want a site you can drive to, Nickel Plate Lake is an ideal choice. A bit hard to find, the last kilometer of the road is quite rough, but it's a beautiful spot that offers a real 'wilderness' feel. There are 3 campsites, 2 picnic tables, and some firewood, but the site remains very basic. It is a bit unusual to find a lake this large, at this elevation, so far off the beaten path. 30 years ago Debbie Lake was a pristine and unspoiled wilderness, but the area has since been logged and scarred by fire. For those interested in a more conventional camping experience but still far from the crowds, Gillis Lake is located 10 kilometers west of the Coquihalla Highway near Kingsvale. In contrast, Jacobson Lake provides a true wilderness feel as you must travel deep into the Cascades to get there. The campsite is basic, but it is 40 kilometers from the nearest town providing a real backcountry feel. Posted July 2026.

Missezula Lake is a large, lesser-known lake north of Princeton. The Provincial campsite at the north end of the lake is a bit hard to find but offers a unique experience for those looking to get away from it all. The Buck Lake recreation area, though off the beaten path, is definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in getting away from the crowds. Posted July 2026.

Shea Lake is a tranquil little lake well off the beaten path, perfect for those looking for a secluded camping experience. The campground offers 8 or 10 spots and features a boat launch for those wishing to get out on the lake. Although the road leading to the lake is a bit rough, you don't need a 4-wheel drive; just a vehicle with good ground clearance. In contrast, the Davis Lake campground is much larger, boasting around 50 spots spread across several sites. Access is via a well-maintained gravel road, making it an excellent location for big RVs. Mounteer Lake is about a 40-minute drive along a logging road off the Coquihalla Highway, followed by an hour-long hike. It truly feels like you're in the middle of nowhere, but the stunning beauty of the lake makes the effort worthwhile. Nearby, you'll find Jono Lake, another picturesque spot. For those interested in a tangible feel for BC's past, the remnants of the Debbie Lake Trapper's Cabin are still visible today, despite a forest fire. The Andy's Lake campsite is small and very basic, but the lake is absolutely beautiful. This area is well off the beaten path, making it perfect for those who enjoy the uncrowded wilderness. If you're looking for BC history adventures, Andy's Lake might just be the ideal spot for you. Additionally, Brook Lake is less than half a kilometer to the west of Andy's Lake, offering more scenic views. Nestled between Murray Lake and Gillis Lake, this picturesque little waterfall isn't marked on any maps and lacks signage, making it a bit challenging to find.
